Land Rover owners: What do you think about your vehicle?

I'm looking into buying a 2004 Land Rover Freelander with 66,000 Miles. What do you think of Land Rover as a vehicle? Just overall, not necessarily the Freelander. What are the pros and cons? Thank you!|||they're very dependable cars, though when they do break down, they are expensive to fix (it's a luxury brand, what do you expect?). the trick with car maintenance is to be proactive and embrace preventive maintenance. have your car checked up even before things start breaking down. and do your tune-ups and oil changes on time.|||UK Landrover owner here. Whatever the other two guys are on about, they're just conjecturing. $300 per month? Where those figures come from, who knows. Payment schemes aside, say you've bought it outright, how much it costs per month, per individual person is impossible for anyone but the owner to say!

The Freelander is the 'go-between' model from the Range Rover to the Discovery. Per se, it's not a 4x4 as along the lines of the Defender, but it's capable of a small amount of off road ability. The main let down is the height of the exhaust at the rear. This WILL catch on pretty much anything off road! It's not got the best reputation for engine reliability either. The head gaskets are known to go fairly often, which is bad news and requires garage attention. Apart from this, the Freelander drives and acts just like any other normal car. It's got a slightly higher seating position than most cars, so it affords you a better view of the road and is comfortable to long distances.

I've been driving Land Rovers or 6 years in the UK (currently a Defender Td5) and this is a true 4x4 vehicle. It's got great off-road capability, but on road, not so great. It gives low mpg and is fairly uncomfortable, but it does me for what I use it for. The costs of repairs are just like any other vehicle, but I can punish my Landrover around the stables a lot more and not break it or need to repair it. Plus, the parts are CHEAP! Here in the UK, I can get all manner of parts for next to nothing, but maybe that's just because so many are made here?

If possible, get a diesel model, they're better on fuel and repairs.|||used land rover's have extraordinary maintenance costs and are not generally reliable vehicles.

if you add up the monthly costs of maintenance you will be spending + payments, you are better off leasing a new one.

you're looking at on average $300/mo in maintenance
