How much would getting a 2 inch lift on my Land Rover Discovery Series ii affect its handling?

Would i have to get bigger tires as well? And whats the cost?|||of course it will effect handling you are putting the centre of gravity higher. - however, you own a land rover so this won't be an issue as they spend most of their time broken down or getting fixed.

What do I do if the reverse shift to a land rover isnt working?

Im looking into buying a 2003 landrover for $3000. Its clean, smooth ride, good engine, in good shape everything but the only problem is that it wont reverse. Im willing to buy it if the problem is fixable and not too too expensive. Any advice or tips on what the problem might be, how I can fix it, or what I should do?|||I would shy away from purchasing a Land Rover period. They don't have a good reputation when it comes to reliability and maintenance.

Virtually everything you do to a Land Rover is going to be expensive.|||Too Funny!!! a 2003 Land Rover with a blown tranny, or at least a blown reverse clutch pack for $3000, Uhh do you think there may be a reason they only want $3000 for it, which is a complete rip off by the way, Its a Land Rover for pete sakes, the tranny work alone will cost 6 grand and the next problem like the engine blowing up will be 10 grand, and gee if you do get it fixed and it needs brakes look at another 3 grand, another $800 for a water pump if that fails, hate to tell you this but Land Rovers are money pits and someone is trying to unload theres on you . run as fast as you can and dont look back.|||i believe i would stay clean away from that car. sounds like the reverse band is broke and hard tell what else is wrong.

Is the Land Rover Freelander considered a "luxury SUV"?

I have heard many people say this since I bought a 2002 version recently. It just happened to be the only vehicle available and I got a great price. How does it compare with other vehicles of it's size? I know reliability is a major issue (from what I have heard) and it is expensive to fix. Partly because it is a "luxury" vehicle. Or is the Freelander the "budget line" Land Rover and the Range Rover is the more elite vehicle?|||you usually consider anything above 40-50K a luxury automobile. yes land rover are sport and luxury suvs.|||When you need a repair you'll find out fast that it's a luxury vehicle. Few places to have it serviced, service and parts are incredibly expensive, and they require a lot of maintenance along with frequent breakdowns. I owned one for 2 years and couldn't get rid of it quickly enough. Worst decision I ever made on a vehicle, and I've owned dozens of vehicles. Sorry for the bad news. Good luck with yours.

Land Rover 1999 Speaker Specifications?

What causes the chirping on acceleration of my Land Rover?

When I accelerate, I get a chirping noise. Usually only during light acceleration - if I hit it hard, it doesn't seem to do it. As soon as I pull my foot off the accelerator, it goes away. I just had a serpentine belt replaced and that didn't make it go away. Mechanic is now saying it's a bad U-joint but that doesn't likely as it's not a clunking - it's a definite chirping (high pitched) HELP?|||Sure sounds like a belt. Check the belt tensioner, they have a bearing in them and if the bearing is going out it could be seizing and causing the problem|||have the tensioner checked on the serpentine belt, sounds like it's not keeping the belt completely tight.

They are designed more for use when you get stuck or have to climb a large muddy hill %26amp; in most normal conditions there is no need to use them on a tarmac road at all!

The small gear stick is to allow you to change from high to low ratio, you push it to the side when you need the diff lock. On normal roads you simply leave it in high ratio %26amp; drive normally.|||should b a small gear lever down by the normal g leaver that has 4 H and 4L just move that forwards or backwards.|||Why are you driving this monster when you have not got a clue how it works.

Whats the difference between range rover and land rover discovery 3?

i was just wondering sometimes they confuse me, i dont see any difference, whats the difference?|||The Range Rover is the flag ship model by Land Rover, it's the more expensive of the entire range, and is only at most, a five seater.

The Discovery 3 is the largest car in the Land Rover range and is aimed squarely at families, offering seven seats.

What is involved in changing a Land Rover Discovery engine?

There's a Disco for sale at the local crappy beater dealer for only $799. The body looks good so it must have a blown engine or something. How much work and money is involved in swapping in some generic American V8?|||A lot of work and knowledge. You have to take the Disco all the way down to the frame. The new engine will have to be aligned perfectly with the transmission, so you will have to design and fabricate the new motor's motor mounts. Your engine will have to mate perfectly with the transmission, so you will have to make some kind of adapter plate. This is a big deal. I think that if you want to do an engine swab project, you should check with a hot rod shop that has already done this conversion. You should pick a project you like, because you will have a lot more money invested than you would ever get at resale. No one will like or trust your work as much as you do.

Why would the heater in my land rover discovery 300 tdi suddenly start blowing cold and there is water in it?

if there is a lot of pressure in the header tank, you got headgasket trouble or a cracked head. when cold start car up take water pressure cap off look for bubbles and a smell diesel.|||If you mean there is water in the cooling system (as normal) then the heating system should work fine. My only suggestion would be that the linkage between the heater dial on the dashboard and the heater unit has come apart, this is usually just a cable like a bike brake cable. If you mean the water is coming though the ventillation system then it would appear you have a leak, which is why there is no warm air coming throught the car. The heaters use the hot water in the cooling system to warm the car, so if there is no water in the cooling system there is no heat,|||Try your thermostat. it may not be opening or possibly wour water pump is defective|||Check your heater core. I think it is bad. My truck did the same thing but anti freeze instead of water came out.

Whats better a 98' jeep cherokee limited or a 01' land rover discovery?

Im getting a car soon and so far my main two choices are between a 1998 jeep cherokee limited and a 2001 land rover discover. They bothe are priced the same and are in good condition but i cant make a decision.....which is better?|||Jeep if it has the 4.0|||A 9 yr old Land Rover is a rolling nightmare. Stay away from it at all costs. The repair and maintenance costs alone will kill you. Unless you can save $1000 per month for repairs, you have no business owning a LR. They are some of the most unreliable cars on the road.

Jeeps are fine. They may have their issues but the basic car is solid. You can find parts for them and plenty of mechanics know how to fix them. There are lots of used Jeeps on the market so shop aggressively, don't settle on the first nice one you see.|||Uh...neither. Can't you get a wrangler or something from chevy or ford?

Should I buy a 2008 Land Rover LR2 or 2007 Acura RDX?

I need to base this decision not only on reliability but also on comfort and up to date technology. Does the RDX's stiff ride serve better than the land rover's bad track record? Which will last up to 6 years?|||I would say the RDX definitely serves as the better choice. Acuras, being from the Honda family, tend to be more reliable cars. Not only that it will probably have an excellent resale value. As far as the Land Rover goes, it is from the Ford family if I am correct. Ford, not having the greatest reliability, (I know cuz I've owned b/f), is not the greatest choice considering it's resale value is horrible. I'd say stick with the Acura if you're looking for a car for the long run because it'll show you many more better days than the Land Rover. I think ride quality is a small sacrifice for all the money you will probably end up saving with the RDX.|||I`m like Acura RDX no way for me to get land rover;))|||Neither. SUVs are out. They don't impress anyone.|||These are image cars to be sure, but being reliable still means something; unless you like being stranded on the roadside and having a mechanic on standby. This means that the Land Rover is out of the race. The problem is that when something breaks and gets fixed, it doesn't stay that way. If you must have something with prestige, then I'd go for the Acura. The stiff ride you make mention of is better than the times you'll spend at the service center. Just a thought, but you're worth it.

Why does Land Rover require the use of synthetic oil in the Freelander?

The 2002 owners manual lists only synthetic oils as being recommended. Aren't regular multi-grade oils safe to use in the Freelander?|||Because the manufacturer says so, If the owners manual says use synthetic oil, then please use it. DO NOT use petroleum based oils, it could cause damage. They know the vehicle best. they built it.|||I'm sure petroleum oil won't hurt, but synthetic oil is better, and lasts longer. |||General maintance costs depend on where you go and what you have done going to the dealer will cost a heck of a lot more then going to a gas station mechanic for the work such a resell value drop may be because the warranty ran out or the place selling them really don't want to keep them long so they drastically drop the prices for used cars to make room for the new ones|||Maintenance will be high on those makes. Studies show that a new car loses about half the price in 3 years. Besides that parts and labor for those vehicles are astronomical like Mercedes or BMW parts and service. If you can afford a breakdown every now and then get what you like.|||Maintenance on any Rover is costly as parts are hard to come by and looney-toons expensive. While the Disco is a very solid vehicle and well built it really is no better than a Chevy Tahoe. If you aren't buying for the status factor parked in your driveway you would be money ahead purchasing any number of domestic vehicles for usually less money and far superior dependability.|||Land rover is a mechanics car. It will need to be repaired on a regular basis. Multiply the cost of regular automotive parts for domestic autos by a factor of 5. Then your options for a shop are slim also. You get the dealer or a shop that works on british cars. I would recomend to not buy one used. If you must have one get a new one and sell it before the warranty runs out. cheers and the croud returns to the 99 beers on the wall song from the beginning because it is not proper good queen's english to start in the middle after stopping without finishing the song.

What would cause my land rover to overheat at times?

My 2002 land rover discovery overheats at times, which I think is strange. So, I'm just wondering why and what would cause this? Drove the car yesterday, went to park it, when all of a sudden the temp raised fast, light came on dashboard, and anti freeze was just pouring out fast from the over flow tank. Turned the car off immediately, waited, filled it up with water, only thing I had, and drove it back home and everything was fine. I don't get it????|||The first thing I would change, is the thermostat. It sounds like that might be sticking at times, and may be the culprit.

Why wont my 98 Land Rover Discovery wont start after driving through water?

I drove through about half a foot of water and it sprayed up, I then smelled some smoke and when I got to my house I turned my car off. When I went to start my car and I put my keys into the ignition I hear nothing and it will not turn on. Please help.|||Since it was only half a foot of water, and since it's a land rover, I doubt the water "hydro-locked" your engine. What may have happened is the water somehow jarred loose or shorted the battery terminals. Check those out, or get anyone who knows a little about cars to do a quick inspection for you.

Check all your caps to make sure they were tight. Also make sure all the wiring is dry, especially around the MAF sensor. I doubt these are the problem though.

It's a land rover; you'll be ok.|||Doubt if it's anything to do with the water, although anything can go wrong with the L.R. The first thing to do is check the battery terminals are clean and tightened properly, it may just be a coincidence that you got the trouble after going through the water, unless the spray got on to the battery, which it shouldn't have, and caused some sort of short, which would explain the smell.|||because its a landrover

Is a Land Rover Freelander a good vehicle?

I have a 2004 Land Rover Freelander and yesterday my vehicle wouldn't start and once it did, i couldn't go over 30 mph, It got towed to the Land Rover dealership and originally they thought it was the transmission, however it was just a wires that frayed.

The lady at the dealership said I should sell the vehicle because the freelander isn't suitible for North American climate.... What do you think?|||It isn't that the Freelander isn't suited for our climate. It is a similar issue, though.

The vehicle had to be modified to pass all our nonsense rules over here, and the modification ruined it. The Freelander itself is a great vehicle and a heck of a lot of fun. Everyone else in the world is enjoying them without too much trouble, but people in the US sure aren't.

So, it isn't that it is not suited to our climate, it is that it is not suited to our rules. Many great cars are castrated in order to be shipped to the good ole US of A, and the Freelander was one of them.

There are things that can be done to increase their reliability. If you like it, it is worth looking into. Check out Land Rover discussion forums on the web to find enthusiasts who actually know what they are talking about. They will help you out, it is what they do.

Don't worry about the other vehicles. Land Rover has done very well with everything else. It is just this darned Freelander that can be finicky.

How much am i looking, insurance wise, for a land rover lightweight?

age: 17 (with pass plus)

first car

land rover lightweight - exarmy, canvas hood

mum as a named driver

only a rough idea|||You may struggle to get cover on a lightweight (Air Portable to give it the correct title) at your age.

Buy a copy of LRO magazine, it's full of classic car insurers who specialise in Land Rovers.|||Pointless using your mum as a named driver, is she really going to be driving it more than you. Keep it real you only want to put your mum on there just to bring down the cost of your insurance premium. I know insurance is very expensive for younger drivers, but you cannot deceive the insurer.

How many miles do you expect to do in a year, under 5000 perhaps, then try and see if there are insurers that can set limits on miles per year, set a curfew so you will not be driving after a certain time and limit the amount of young persons in the vehicle, all these factors can reduce your premium by as much as 40% and don't forget to set a high excess limit of say 拢600 or higher.|||it all depends on your personal criteria, you should compare your insurance. try theycompare.co.uk|||It's impossible to provide a guess/estimate, there are too many variables involved, it's best for you to get a quote based on your own criteria.

What is better the Infiniti G35 coupe or Land Rover LR2?

Infiniti is a car, while Land Rover is a mid-sized SUV. Both are in the $30,000's.|||Why compare apples to oranges? If you want an SUV, get the Rover. If you want a sports coupe, get the G35.|||G35 Coupe that car drives so well and is pretty cool but the backseat isnt too roomy|||You really can't compare the two. They are on totally opposite ends of the spectrum

What do you mean by 'better'? If you like performance, the Infiniti will run circles around the Land Rover, of course. But if you want all-weather performance, the Land Rover is much better, since the Infiniti is a RWD sports car. Land Rover also has more rear seat room, cargo room, etc. It really depends on what you're looking for.

In my opinion though, the G35 is a much better looking car. Land Rover's have always looked pretty plain to me, especially considering their hefty price tag.|||It depends.. do you want a coupe or an SUV? the LR2 is a great all around vehicle. with not all that great fuel economy.

About 14/15.

On theother Hand, the G35 is a nice sporty car with about 20 MPG. As nice as th LR3 is, i'd go with the coupe.

How do I reset the ABS light for brakes after changing the pads? Land Rover?

This is a 2006 Land Rover LR3|||That ABS light has nothing to do with those pads. You have something else going on. the sensor to sense the wheel speed is close to the ring on the end of the axle. Wire might have come loose or the notches in the ring can be messed up. The abs sensor reads the notches by electro magnetic pulses. So something is telling the abs that its not reading or the abs module itself sensed a problem. It would be wise to find out what the ABS code is. run to aurtozone and see if they can read that code and then post it here so we can tell you where the real problem is.

the wheel speed sensors job is to sense when the wheel locks up (brakes lock the wheel) then it pulsates the brake fluid to the wheel to release the wheel so it doesnt skid. (lock up like older cars)|||Changing the pads doesnt have anything to do with the ABS system. The ABS is an electronic system that senses when the wheel is in full lock, and then "pulses" the brakes. Pulling the battery will erase the code, but not fix the cause. Most likely you have a bad sensor or other problem in the ABS system

How much is a 1949 Land Rover worth?

My uncle's car..... he died and I was in line to get it. lol But for you car experts out there- how much is a 1949 Land Rover considering the possible damage it went through (it being over 50 years old)?|||Depending on it's condition, i'd say 1000-1500 dollars, maybe 1800 at most. Don't rush, you'll find someone out there who will buy.

Personally i would keep it. There arent a lot of cars out there that can go on for over fifty years like the land rover. How much does it cost to fit a 2" lift kit to a land rover is there any mechanics on the on here that can help

i just want to know because i am pricing up everything for my land rover defender 300 tdi hard top|||Hi

If you mean to raise the height of your land rover that is quite cheap just by using longer spring hangers .

Mail me if you need more info

Hope this helps|||It depends if you fit it yourself or if you pay someone to fit it.

The cheapest brands are from suppliers like John Craddocks, Britpart and Paddocks or MM. They tend to sell ProComp kits which are a good budget brand. Google the names for the websites.

Frogs Island 4x4 also sell Terrafirma lift kits which are new to the market but good quality.

For more expensive quality parts look at the Scorpion Racing website for De Carbon shocks and and their various kits. Old Man Emu are regarded as the top 'off-the'shelf' brand of springs and shocks - check out the Devon 4x4 for these.

Price wise about 拢200 should ket you a decent budget kit like ProComp from somewhere like Paddocks. Budget 拢400+ for an Old Man Emu kit. If you don't want to fit yourself (it's a fairly straight forward job) budget another 拢100 or so more for labour at your local garage).

Bear in mind that when you lift your Land Rover you may cause yourself a few problems, it varies with all Land Rovers but you may notice some problems with your propshaft. Above a 1" lift the castor angle will be thrown out so you may need to think about getting castor correct frotn radius arms or eccentric bushes in the axle. If you don't the steering will be less effective and won't correct itself as well as standard. So handling and cornering may be poorer.

You will also be stressing the propshaft universal joints more because the height difference between the gearbox output shaft and the differential flange will be greater. If this causes problems after a while you can buy and fit wide yoke probshafts or double-carden joints.

Personally I would just fit the basic lift kit, drive it for a while and then if you have problems later worry about the propshaft and the radius arms many people don't bother as they are not always necessary.

While you are fiddling with your springs and shocks you might want to replace your suspension bushes as well. You could upgrade these to polyurethene items - Polybush and Superpro are good brands. This is where you could swap them for eccentric or angled bushed to deal with the castor angle problem. This will improve the ride and handling too.

You may also need to fit longer brake lines as if you off road with your lift kit the extra suspension travel may overstretch and snap the standard brake lines which you really don;t want! The companies I mentioned earlier sell these.

If you want help on how to fit these most of the Land Rover magazines have covered how to fit a lift kit so check their back issues e.g. Land Rover Owner or Land Rover Monthly.

There are also workshop manuals like the Haynes range which won't specifically cover fittign a lift kit but do cover replacing your standard suspension and it is basically the same procedure.

Or you could join an online Land Rover forum (for free) like LandyZone, LR4x4, landrovernet or the Land Rover Owner forum and post a question on there for help and advice on how to fit it,or search the forum archives for previous posts. If you ask on one of those forums locally people who live locally might even be willing to come around and give you a hand!

I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Can ford employees get discounts on land rover vehicles and are there any restrictions?

i know ford owns land rover and wondering if ford motor corp employees can get discounts on land rover vehicles. if so, what is it and are there any restrictions like only certain vehicles. also, is it up to the dealer whether or not they'll give you the employee price?|||yes u'll have to go through ur HR if u work for ford and they can give u all of ur discounts because they do get a discount w/cingular wireless|||Most likely you'll be elibible under the Ford Employee Program, but you'll have to check with a dealerhship. They'll be able to determine your eligibility|||Yes we are elegible for employee price. And if you have a connection with one you know they might still be able to get you the X-plan which use to be 4% discount. And it's a better one than Just any discount. The dealer would get the 4% from Ford so the dealer would be happy to do it. It's a Good way to get a vehicle everyone ends up happy. I thought it made my deal go through easier then if I was getting it on a High interst loan.

2004 Land Rover Discovery for a 16 year old?

Hi there! Well my child is turning 16 in about 2 months and he really wants a 2004 land rover discovery because he really likes how boxy it is and how your ride so high up! I looked online and all the reviews look great! I have had a few Range Rovers and I wanted to know if Land Rovers are as expensive to fix? And do you think a Land Rover is the right car for him? And a safe car? Any suggestions or comments would be great thanks!|||sorry no land rover is not a good car, it is a vehicle well known for expensive engine and electrical problems, is hard on gas, extremely expensive to fix, because all parts are dealer only items, shipped on a boat from overseas, The have air bag suspensions on a lot of them and these are a couple grand to repair front and rear.I don't know of a more expensive vehicle you could pick.

I suggest you talk to your mechanic with your son, there are plenty of other tall vehicles out there I would focus on a nissan, a honda or a toyota, front engine rear wheel drive or four wheel drive. And subaru has a wrx sti that is a rally car with race proven heritage in a street body with a boxer four cylinder and a turbo.

I know kids get stuck on image and that some vehicles seem like the only one, but honestly, there has to be some limits, and I suggest at the very least go talk to your mechanic and find out his thinking on a range rover and go from there ok? best of luck|||Safe - yes. Reliable - no. In fact they are just about the least reliable used car you can buy. They are renowned for being in the shop constantly, and repairs are very costly as parts are difficult to find locally. If your child wants a reliable, safe, boxy 4x4, consider a Toyota Landcruiser, Nissan Pathfinder, or Honda Pilot.|||Depends on age and mileage if it's not new. As said you will need a resident mechanic unless you do you're own ''spannering''.

You might want to look around for a dealer who sells re-furbished land rovers which would probably be a better option as such a car would hopefully have been sorted out.

Do you live out in the sticks? I.E. countryside?

it might also be worth looking at some of the Mitsubishi's and or similar, we run 2 Pinnins both 4x4 one manual one auto.Similar to the short wheel based land rover.Maybe not quite the 'icon' Landrover but ''does what it says on the tin''!|||High, easy to see all surrounding and the road compare to sedan car.

Safety, yes. Good for the driver because the chassis is tough.

But make sure he can handle well.

Is there a website i can go to and find out about the reliability of a land rover?

My family and i are thinking about getting one of the older land rovers but dont know too much about the maintenance and reliability of them. I'd like to find out more about this truck and any issues i might have to worry about. PLEASE HELP ME!!!|||The new Land Rovers are a great vehicle and no worries they come with a warranty. I wouldn't be so quick to buy an older one unless you are buying it from a dealer and they have run it through a C.V.I.. If you buy from an individual you also by their problems. You might want to call local parts stores as you may be in shock when you see the price for replacement parts, and the lack of availability. Don't get me wrong they are a premier vehicle. Just make sure the vehicle has been maintained properly.|||land rover.com

Is the 2003 Land-rover Discovery a reliable car?

I'm looking for a car that is very reliable. My interest is more toward the 2003 land-rover discovery, but is that car a very good one? Does it last for a long time? Does it normally tend to have to have a lot of repairs done to it? I'm debating on buying it as a first car. If this isn't a reliable car, does anyone have any other ideas?|||Sorry, "Land Rover" and "reliable" are never used in the same sentence.

Part of owning one is knowing that you're going to be without it for several days each month. Every Land Owner I have known has regretted ever owning one.

And, as said before, parts are VERY expensive for Land Rovers. Once they go out of warranty, they become huge money pits. The sad thing is, people still see them as a "luxury" brand for some reason.

*EDIT -- "Tilen", yep I took some artistic licensing, sorry about that. However, in general terms Land Rovers are NOT reliable vehicles as the question inquires.|||Land Rover's are overpriced pieces of junk. They are not reliable, severely decline in value at a rapid rate and parts are very expensive for them.|||Well some answers here are just totally exaggerated. I'm up to my 3rd Land Rover and very happy. Like they say Land Rovers are not for everyone they are complicated and very expensive to fix that is why they depreciate fast. I have a Range 09 and don't wanna give up my 03 Disco mainly bec it is a workhorse.I drive to all parts of Illinois everyday being a visiting doctor and for 6 years now it never broke down on me. But I'm warning you the upkeep is expensive, premium gas, parts expensive and hard to find, you have to have extra money unless you buy an extended warranty that way you don't have to worry about the costs.

And as an owner I don't really care about the luxury or prestige part of it but it is the passion of owning and pleasure of driving one and that is unique.|||I would not recommend it for a first car. If you are buying a car for reliability you'd probably be better off with a Toyota. I have a Disco and never had problems with it but very expensive to maintain. They last long, very tough but needs a lot of TLC. And I would buy one these again.

How old do you have to be to get insured on a land rover in the uk?

pretty much what it says in the question lol.

how old do you have to be to get insured on a land rover in England, UK?

thinking about buying a land rover for my first car but dont know how old you have to be to get insured for one? anyone know?

many thanks x|||From my experience many insurers won't touch any new driver for a Land Rover, but there are a few exceptions.

I would try to get a quote from the National Farmers Union before you buy the car, they are very competitive and accommodating with 4X4 cover.|||The price will be sky high for a first time driver in a land rover. You need to be over 17 but good luck finding an insurance company that will insure you. Why don't you google car insurance and put all your details in and then you will get some idea of price etc.... Good luck %26amp; happy new yr :)|||I learned to drive in a Land Rover at 17, the insurance is high but I live on a farm so i can justify it.

They're good cars but if you need something easy to insure then a Land Rover probably isn't it.|||depends really old land rover such as series 2 and 3 arent turbocharged so are about 4k to insure at 17 modern defender are about 9k upwards and any other land rover even more worth 4k for old land rover but they need a lot of work and good one dont come cheap|||The same as you need to be for other cars, usually over 17 most times its 18. Obviously insurance is much higher for you. I new someone who had a rover at young age.|||You might get it at under 24 but it will be very expensive IF you do

Knowledge GREATLY appreciated on the "reasonable cost" to get Brakes & rotors turned on a Range/Land Rover

My divorced w/ children girlfriend has some issues with her newer model Land Rover mostly with squeaky brakes with a bit of shimmy when stopping.. When she called the mechanic, he diagnosed it as an issue with brake replacement an/or/both the rotors as well.

He quoted her a cost of 1,000 to 1,200 to fix it. This seems like more than highway robbery, since new brakes and turning rotors together would cost around $200.00 for a standard car.

His claim is the Land Rovers is a very discriminative SUV. It requires factory parts or it will cause all types of other issues such as warning check engine lights going off and also providing poor road performance. Even if this is true, the price still seems really high. I strongly think that he is taking advantage of her because of her single status.

I would be very APPRECIATIVE to hear from anyone who has knowledge on Rover Repair costs. I will forward your advice on to her.

Thank you for your help!

kygirl3|||It depends on whats wrong, but your girlfriend's mechanic is right about range rovers needing factory parts. In fact, I would strongly advise against using aftermarket brake parts on any car (if the car is being used in a normal fashion, racing is another story...) English cars are especially picky, and parts are very expensive. Some luxury cars (I don't know about this rover, not knowing the exact model or year) have sensors that inform the driver when the brakes are worn out, it may not work with aftermarket parts (the owner's manual will say whether or not her car has this feature) Aftermarket brake pads are, in my experience, more likely to squeak, and can cause other problems too. As an example, when the Nissan titan came out, the rotors would warp in 4to 6 thousand miles with normal use. Nissan revised the design of the brake pads and altered nothing else and fixed the problem. The quality of the pads makes a huge difference. If the car needs new rotors and pads, or if it needs new calipers, the cost may in fact be reasonable. I would still advise her to go to another mechanic and get a second opinion, you never know how scrupulous someone is, and it can't hurt, right?|||i have done a lot of rovers, and the cost on doing front brakes on them usually runs around 400 bucks at the most,i don't know who she called ,but tell her not to let them repair it,that's way to much, there isn't any more work in doing that one than a Chevy,i don't know why mechanics charge this much,i been at this for 37 yrs,and you don't have to make all your money off of one customer, you make it a little at a time.anything over 400 is too much, good luck with it.

What is the tallest tire to fit a 1998 Land Rover Range Rover?

I have a dilemma. I've just purchased a 1998 Land Rover Range Rover. It currently has the stock tires and 16in rims.

I am wanting to take the rims and tires off of my Expedition and see if they fit the Rover.

The rims on the Expedition are 20x8.5 Boss 304's, the tires 275x55 R20's.

I've seen a Rover with a 265x45 tire and 20x8.5 rim, but I still have yet to find one with a larger tire.|||Sounds like you are trying to turn that RR into a Low Pro. Definitely not my cup of tea but if you log in to either landroverforums.com or lrrforums.com and ask there, I'm sure you'll get an accurate answer fast.|||you can put a new wheel with more radius but it will mess up your vehicles speedometer reading and actual speed, You might need to get it corrected i think.

1997 Land Rover Defender 90, service engine light on?

I am having a difficult time with this one this is a 97 Land Rover Defender 90 , I have a fault code P1317 that is the rough road signal did all the tests for continuity found all the wires from connector C636 to C501 to be intact etc.

The Service Reminder Unit is not behind the binicle, neither in the r/h front kick panel.

I also checked the wiring diagram and the wire that powers the service engine light comes from the engine control unit.

The service engine light remains on!!!

Any sugestions?|||Check that all the abs sensors have no debris on them, are seated properly and the sensor retainers are lubricated and tight. Wabco uses a special gray grease to ensure that there is no corrosion between the copper sensor bushing and the sensor.

You will have to check that all of the sensors display the same speed. If not replace the incorrect sensor. Incorrect readings can be cause by poor connections. Check resistance and voltage readings on a DVOM.|||you may have already, come across some of your problem. Your service light has an amber colored lens, which means, the problem in not to urgent yet. I beleive Rovers like most Cadalacks, have level ride systems, with air bag suspensions. They adjust the air bag pressure, for smooth rides.

You may heve a small air leak or some thing else related to your air ride suspension.

Why are used Land Rover Vehicles so cheap?

It seems like Land Rovers' don't hold their value worth a darn.....anyone know why? They are regarded as great, off-road capable warriors but according to KBB the a 1995 Discovery is only worth around $2,000. I know they have been owned by BMW, Ford, and now Tata Motors of India. Is it because they are expensive to fix/maintain? Thanks!|||None of these people know what they are talking about. I'll tell you precisely why they depreciate so fast. Very few people know just why cars have to depreciate.

Let us look at the Range Rover as an example. A new one costs around 76 grand. Now, it is fairly easy to get a well off person to pay 76 grand for a new luxury vehicle, especially a Range Rover. It sells.

The yuppie buys it. Here is where things go awry. He doesn't like it, because he is a yuppie, and he thought he was getting a normal wannabe SUV. So, he decides to sell it, and runs into a problem.

He cannot find a well off person who is interested in buying a used luxury vehicle unless it is one heck of a deal. After all, why pay 70 grand, when you can drop 6 more and get a new one?

For that matter, in this price range, why pay 65 grand?

As a matter of fact, that vehicle will have to fall much farther before the well heeled will consider owning it secondhand. So, it sells to the next buyer for 55 grand, who is also a well off person, but at least he got a killer deal. As such, he doesn't mind the fact that it is used. The seller didn't mind the loss because the vehicle qualified for a tax credit anyway.

So, yuppie number two drives it for a couple of years. He determines that he simply isn't manly enough for a Range Rover, and decides to sell it.

Now, in his ownership, he has reduced the value of the vehicle further, but just how much? It now has between 40 and 70,000 miles on the odometer, and is considered a proper used car.

No well heeled person would purchase such a vehicle, so it goes to an average yuppie this time. Average yuppies don't have near as much money as the previous owners, but they make up the market, so...

The price goes down, into the 30s or 20s, depending on how old the car is. It has to go this far for the people in the market to afford it.

So, this average yuppie buys the car, and he in turn drives it for a while.

After this while, the vehicle has more miles and is even older. He realizes that such a car really is too extravagant for him, and his wife's recent pregnancy mandates more monetary responsibility. So, he decides to sell the vehicle.

Now, this is a three owner car, and it is packing between 60 and 100,000 miles. It is older, but it is still in decent shape. The market has to drop again, but not to bottom just yet.

The only people interested in this car just got their first real job after college. The car has to drop to their price range to sell, so it lands between 10 and 20,000 dollars.

After a while, when THEY decide to sell it, it is too old for any yuppie to be interested in, or it has too many miles.

It has to fall down to the ENTHUSIASTS price. And that, my friends, is the price you are referring to. That is where WE pick it up, and drive it for 300,000 more miles before chopping the top and installing air lockers and rock sliders after we purchase another yuppie owned rig for driving on the street.

THAT is how depreciation works.|||They're British crap.

If you think they depreciate a lot, check out a Jaguar. When Ford foolishly bought Jaguar, they were just on the raggedy edge of being able to produce a car that could successfully be used for transportation. Just on the raggedy edge.

Both these companies improved somewhat while the huge engineering and financial resources of Ford were being wasted on them.|||They require a lot of repairs and the parts are very expensive. They are great cars in performance, however. You are better off in the long run with a jeep Cherokee.|||Because they suck, and they always break down, or there is always something wrong with them. And yes, they are very expensive to fix and maintain.|||They are the number one car that looses its price as soon as it drives off the lot.|||Keenith W great anwser

How will the 2008 Lexus LX570 and 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser compare with Mercedes GL and Land Rover Range Rover

The pricing for the 2008 Lexus LX570 is not out yet, but even the Toyota Land Cruiser starts at $63,885 (that's about $7,000 more than the Mercedes GL!). Even though those are steep prices, the LX570 and Land Cruiser does however have enormous amounts of luxury features and new technologies like crawl control and blindspot cameras and an enormous 5.7 V8 with 380 horsepower while still retaining the Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle II rating, oh, and ten airbags, power third and second row seats... How will you think it will compare with the Mercedes GL/G, Land Rover Range Rover, or any other large luxury SUV's.

Note: the Crawl control is like auto-pilot for off roading, scaling mountains, boulders, etc...|||I agree, lexus and toyota quality are unsurpassed. The gentleman that notes that mercedes and land rover have better quality should look at the customer satisfaction ratings for these companies, both bottom of the barrel. Check out the consumer reports evals on all these cars and lexus/toyota are at the top.|||I prefer the Land Cruiser. Normally, Lexus' are my favorite, but there's something about Land Cruisers that make me like them better. They're definitely better than the GL and G. Toyota or Lexus is your best bet. They hold their value well and last forever.|||The Mercedes and land rover have a better build quality with higher end materials and more luxurious feeling interior that last longer. The Lexus and Toyota use allot of cheep plastics inside but as far as gadgets go they are probably on par (the range will be better off road). so if you want gadgets and leather the Lexus and cruiser will be goods but if you want great build quality and true luxury i would look at Audi Q7, range rover, X5 or the GL.|||The Lincoln Navigator beats all of them and then some! Way nicer in every aspect and all that for under 60K!|||Lexus Rocks!

I'm thinking of buying a 1995 Land Rover Discovery with a 5 speed manual transmission and has 118,000 miles. Now I know that Land Rovers aren't the most reliabile car in the World but should I get it or not?|||Land Rovers are an aquired taste.

If you like them then you love them.....but you are quite correct...not the most reliable vehicle in the world.

We have a 1971 series 3 and to be honest it's a motoring nightmare.

No power steering, no syncromesh on the first two gears and overdrive instead of a high gear that you have double clutch to select.

As for the wandering steering...we won't even go there.

But we love it...so I would say YES...buy a Landy!

As for parts in the US...you'll have no problem at all getting them.

There's a thriving Landy fan base in the US so parts are available.|||They are usually abused along with Jeep.|||Sounds like "no" to me. Why would you choose to buy a car that already has 118,000 miles on it that, by your own description, is unreliable?|||Unless you're doing frequent field work or travel in the jungle or across impassable mountainous terrain -- skip it. How Would I Convert A Diesel Consuming Land Rover Into A Vegetable Oil/Bio Diesel Consuming One?

My friend has asked me to help him convert his old land rover into one that runs on vegetable oil instead of diesel. I don't know what make it is exactly, but it is a series two or a series three with a normally aspirated, 2.5 litre engine. I would also like to know what this conversion would to to the performance and wether it has any downsides to it. Thanks!|||There is a difference between biodiesel and vegetable oil.

Biodiesel is produced from vegetable oil, but is very similar in all characteristics to real Diesel. You don't need any mods, but you will need to find a source, or make your own.

Running straight vegetable oil in a Diesel is possible, but the problem is that veggie oil is more viscous than Diesel. It also tends to gel at low temperature. What you need to do is install a separate tank for your veggie oil. The tank needs a heater, plumbed into your cars cooling system. You won't be able to use this tank until it gets to around 140F, so you need to install an electrically operated valve which allows you to switch between your regular Diesel tank and your vegetable oil tank at the flick of a switch. You will then use regular Diesel for starting and warm up. And when you stop the car, you will need to throw the switch back to Diesel, and allow the veggie oil to purge out. Be aware that vegetable oil will foul injectors, so you will need to clean them periodically.

I've included a few helpful links.|||From what I have read you can run bio diesel in a diesel engine with no mods. Do you have a source for Bio? If not there are distilery set ups to make your own a few hundred gallons at a time.

How big can i go on my land rover tires?

i have a 2000 land rover discovery 2 and i was wondering how big can i go on tires and wheels if it is still stock.|||this depends on wether or not your willing to go shaving bits off your fenders. As far as I know on the stock ones the stock wheels are about as big as i'd go. Any bigger and you may get some rubbing problems. Lift it though and trim the fenders and you could get much bigger tires.

Land Rover Discovery II Passenger Side Mirror Problems?

I have a 2004 Land Rover Discovery II that I recently purchased. The passenger side mirror is loose. I does not move when I am driving but when someone walks by it can shift it from the position. Everything else works but my question is do I have to replace the entire mirror (which will be pretty expensive) or can I purchase the mechanism that helps it to stay on place?|||Purchasing the mechanism may be enough as it holds the mirror in position.

Land Rover Freelander 2004. Are they more expensive to maintain and repair?

I'm thinking of purchasing a Land Rover 2004 Freelander. My husband says they're more expensive to maintain and repair than other "american made" small suvs. Does anyone have experience with this type of vehicle that can offer some insight? Thanks!!|||Hell yes they are more expensive, and a huge pain in the ***.

For example, I have one customer in my shop that owns one. She knows to call ahead 3 days in advance for an oil change so we can special order the $20 oil filter for it that has to come from out-of-state. Who needs that kind of complication and added expense for the most routine maintenance. Good thing the vehicle is new enough she has not needed any other work. Outside of the very sparse dealer network there is no parts availability for these vehicles.

A Ford Escape offers more room and practicality at a fraction of the price. Even the smallish Honda CRV would be a better choice. Land Rover's, like most Euro makes I am convinced are for people who have a need to feel superior. Practical transportation devices they are not.|||The most expensive thing about the Land Rover and any other SUV is the gasoline to keep them running and the carbon footprint you add to your already huge footprint by operating such a vehicle. They use a lot of gas, repairs are expensive, and there are certainly more technologically advanced vehicles out there. If you're not going to use it on the trails, you're probably better off with a Toyota 4Runner, although the Discovery is probably cheaper. I like mine, but it is not my daily driver. I want a 2003 land rover discovery but it gets to bad of mpg. what is a car that looks like it, (like a beast and a small suv) but has better gas mileage. The tops it can be is 10,000$ and the oldest it can be is a 2000|||The Nissan Xterra is very similar to a Discovery, and gets better MPG.

C7S: You are still wrong even now. They don't get the worst mpg, and they aren't the most unreliable. I don't know what Land Rover did to you to cause your hatred for the company, but you need to let it go and start using real data. You can scream about J.D. Power all you want, and point at Consumer Reports until your finger turns blue, but when it comes down to it...

When people who actually get out of doors need something rock solid to endure extended operational durations in the worst conditions available, they STILL choose Land Rover, and they are very happy with them. Land Rovers are finicky because people don't read the manual. One thing people never stop to consider is the fact that they are DRIVING it to the dealership to complain about it.

I am just going to put it out there that I search for Rover related questions to help owners understand their vehicles. I do this every day. And every day, C7S pops in to say they are the worst cars in the world, the absolute automotive spawn of the underworld.

I normally wouldn't go on like this, but you all have to understand that some people might base their purchasing decisions on these answers.

Reading magazines and cataloging reviews doesn't make you a car guru.|||Not only bad MPG, but the worst reliability, high maintenance, premium fuel requirement.

We're about to look at a land rover defender any advice??

I am thinking about buying a land rover defender 110,1990, that has been fitted with a discover engine thathas only 50k on the clock, am i looking at trouble?? I am going to see it today, what should i look out for? Thanks|||From what I understand, maintenance will be very expensive. My co-worker has a Land Rover (not sure which model) and new breaks costs him $1200.|||Stay away-stay very far away (that is unless you have lots of money to keep repairing it and stock in a towing company).

These vehicles (Rovers in general) are a money pit. That's my advice.

Anyone have information against class action suit against Land Rover for engine overheating?

I have found numerous reviews of unhappy Land Rover OWNERS, but I 've yet found any actual working LAWSUIT info on these mechanical issues of Overheating in resulting in the need to have Engine Replacement. and 100's of complaints of many other different issues. Any Information on the Land Rover Discovery?

I am wanting to purchase a 1996-2000 used Land Rover Discovery. Does anyone have any detailed information on these vehicles? Advice from current owners would be great! Any interior pictures would be greatly appreciated as well, because I have not been able to see the inside|||Absolutely do not buy one. They are one of the most expensive cars to mantain since all parts have to be shipped from England. This is probably one of the worse vehicles you can buy. If you are looking for a car that is going to have a lot of problems and you're going to dump a lot into, then go for it. The resale value on these is also horrible.|||The newer LR3's are supposed to be a lot nicer. Not sure of the cost difference on these. You can go to Land Rover's web site and check them out. You can get to it from Ford's web site also. good luck.|||www.discoweb.org has a wealth of information and pictures in the photo gallery. check the bulleting board for tips on buying a used one.

Why buy a land rover or a range rover?

im considering buying a used land rover or range rover. i heard that they are unreliable. what are some pros and cons about them.|||Personally, I would advise against buying a Range Rover as over the last few years, RR has had a plague of problems with air suspension, poor quality fit, air leaks and the like. If you find a vehicle that you really like, though, please run a CarFax on it, then take it to a GOOD independent auto repair place as well as maybe an independent Rover shop to have them do a complete and thorough inspection of the vehicle from top to bottom. Also, do a good search of the vehicle online thru automotive sites like Edmunds or some of the others to get more opinions. If you are going to be spending more than $30k for a used vehicle, it's best to get all the info you can on that vehicle before you take possession. This could at least give you some peace of mind. If the user or the dealer refuses to let you take it to " your " mechanic, walk away from it.|||Overpriced status symbols.|||I can't believe all the people buying Rovers in my area. it must be some trend that people with too much money are into. But Land Rovers are rated as the least reliable vehicles out there. I rode in one once and broke 3 different things in the car. And I have never broken something in a car before or after. I think they are junk and just laugh when I see people in them.|||Joe Lucas didn't invent darkness, he merely perfected it.

Note: the Crawl control is like auto-pilot for off roading, scaling mountains, boulders, etc...|||Benz hands down. The new GL 550 comes with every option every option standard plus it has a 385 horsepower engine and cost $78,00, ts a step price but u get a ton of stuff, such as heated front and rear seats and steering wheel. rear view camera and parktronic and a bunch more. The GL 320 and 420 are also good buys. Every GL model has 10 airbags. Maybe even 12. Plus Benzes are known for safety. I would go with the GL. Have you looked into the R class. your choices are fine but all those look the same. The r looks completely different and they a lot cheaper. Hope this helps

Benz-4-Life|||mercedes benz is a good car. its german so it will serve you more. but if problems occure then ull be really mad because one small part costs alot of MONEYYYYYYYYYYY..|||How come then when archeologist's tried to dig up a dinosaur, they did not take any Land cruisers. It was Range Rover diesels in the middle of nowhere. Toyota can go off the road but it can not take abuse, like the big dogs in business. Oh, and most capable 4X4 belongs to G-class Benz.|||Because you added in more than just Mercedes-Benz (because Lexus also competes with BMW, Infiniti, Acura and the like in which u need to include in some of these questions) Im gonna answer this. The Toyota is MUCH over priced which suprises me. Anyway, I dont see a reason to own an suv this large for any reason what so ever. But if i was buying one Id buy the Toyota because it can go off road. Buying and suv and never taking it off road is stupid. However since your throwing Range Rover in the mix, then Thats what I would buy. But its to over priced, so I would get the LR3. So basicly...

I would buy the Land Crusier for that back up camera, thats cool. I wouldn't buy the Mercedes cause its not as good offroad, and I wouldn't buy the Lexus because its the same as the Land Crusier, which is over priced meaning the Lexus would be SUPPER EXTRA overpriced. So I wouldnt buy any of these large Suvs cause they're just to big. But all in all, I would choose the Land Crusier or the Range Rover. More than likely the Range Rover. Yes its over priced but it can go offroad AND it's more luxury and worth the price. So in this catogory, the Mercedes looses to me Land Rover wins Toyota is a choice, Lexus is not.|||OK, now you decided to strip off those fancy clothes and put on the mountain gears.......

20 years ago there was no Lexus, Toyota gave birth to Lexus!

Since you have been trying so hard, where is the X5?

Whatever it is, Mercedes is the choice.|||Land Rover is still Ford owned. At least for now.

As to off road capability, the Range Rover would be much more capable than the Land Cruiser/Lexus. The ones off road in other areas are not what you buy here in the US, just like the Range Rover that more than 1/3 of the world apparently see as their first vehicle is not the same one you can buy here in the US. I would much prefer the Land Rover vehicles over the Toyota vehicles.

But it is all just personal preference. I would tend to disagree with the statement about more of the Land Cruisers off road than the Range Rovers. In many of the circumstances of both makes they will never see anything off road.

Either way you are getting a very nice vehicle, it is a matter of how much you want to spend and what you like.|||well a think that Range Rover is the best choice since your looking for both luxury and power. Its got every feature that a land cruiser has and a few other features that you won't find on any other car.

Because a Lexus and a MB GL are made for city driving but they don't do very well in mountains and aren't really good for camping and etc. and you should forget about them if you aren't the kind of person who just wants to drive in the city.

A land cruiser is an awesome car for deserts but range range rover is made for all kinds of terrains!

The Best SUV in the world(my opinion) is Range rover because it power full,it's luxurious,it,s fast enough for a SUV,it does great in all kinds of terrains and its classy!

But then again its $$CHA CHING$$

Anyone Used Land Rover Warranty Since Buyout?

I am thinking about purchasing a used 2008 Land Rover and was wondering if anyone has had warranty work done since Ford sold Land Rover. If so how did it go? Was it any different than when Land Rover was owned by Ford. Thanks!|||I've had warranty works done on my Land Rovers since BMW, Ford or Tata owned them. There shouldn't be any difference at all.

How will the 2008 Lexus LX570 and 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser compare with Mercedes GL and Land Rover Range Rover

Note: the Crawl control is like auto-pilot for off roading, scaling mountains, boulders, etc...|||Why are you even asking? You obviously are biased toward the Toyota and Lexus anyway. You bash every answer you get in both of your questions.

EDIT: No you provide evidence to support your OPINION. This is a question that doesn't have a correct answer it is all based on opinion and when someone else gives their opinion you provide yours in a way that bashes their answer. How can Land Rover and Jaguar be posting losses?

Apparently Land Rover and Jaguar are showing a6 billion pounds loss this year. How can this be, there are thousands of new Land Rovers on the road and the new Jag looks nice and should sell well?|||econmics 101 spending more then you are making.

yes they are good products - I see a lot of them in show rooms no one can afford, or are unwilling to pay for. Plus the overhead of corporations, advertisments, shipping, handling, and production. margins need to exceed costs.|||I can appreciate that Jaguar are making huge losses because of its poor product range but questions must be asked about Land Rover whose product range is very popular and extremely expensive.|||They aren't

Its the parent company Ford who are making the 拢6 billion losses, mainly because the U.S. car market is in the same situation the U.K. car market was in the 70's.

The price of fuel (the price of petrol has risen from under a dollar a gallon to 3 dollars a gallon in the past few years) has turned U.S. consumers away from gas guzzlers, and better quality, smaller and cheaper imported cars are flying out of the dealerships. Ford and GM just can't compete, and are having to sell of the crown jewels (Jaguar and Land Rover) to fund reconstruction of the Business.|||There are some sensible answers already.

One additional point is that it's possible to move losses between companies in a group.

Take the X type (no one else has...) - it uses the Mondeo floor pan. How much do you cross charge? The price of the materials? The price of the labour + materials, or do you try and give Jaguar some Ford losses by making a case to charge the for the development as well.

There are loads of common components throughout the ranges and this sort of thing will go on. It'll be designed to ensure the group of companies pay as little tax as possible.|||Because we live in a self hate nation who buys foreign rubish insted of our own! neither are particularly reliable. if you are off roading the wrangler is MUCH better unless you can find an old defender, which may be the best off roader ever.

the land rover is nicer, but more expensive. it's also less reliable. if i were looking for a very capable off roader with good on road manners and creature comforts, i'd look at the nissan xterra. the new ones are almost as good off road as a jeep, but much better on road and are available with a 6 speed. (or were) they'll tow more and haul more too.

Simple!!!|||This is just stupid. Why would anyone even try to buy those 2 companies? Those two companies in my opinion produce the crappiest cars ever. I'm talkin about the makes made in the 90's guys. I don't intend to buy the new ones made when Land Rover was bought by Ford. I'm intending to buy the Land Rover SUV's when BMW had control.

I think it would be a decent buy to get the 90's Land Rovers.

Only do it if you are good at doing repairs..|||high cost of repairs compared to a jeep and if your going to use it for what it is made for id go with jeep|||I mean, personally, I feel Land Rovers are the most unreliable vehicles on the planet, but with that being said..

BMW owned Land Rover for only a few years. The newly designed Range Rover was when BMW made Land Rovers legitimate again. Then they sold it cause it was competing too much with the X5. The Ford bought it.. then they sold it to an auto company in India..

If I were you I'd look in a different direction for SUVs. My uncle had a 97 Range Rover with only 80k miles and sold it in 4 months it was that horrible.

IDK about the Land Rovers itself (all I'm talking about is the Range Rover) But I'd have to imagine its not all that better. Just keep in mind your going to have to put as much money into the car as how much you bought it for..|||Uh, no.

To be honest, I am pretty sure Ford was as good for LR as they were for Volvo and Jag-u-ar.

Not that getting a Land Rover shows any sort of intelligence anyway, but Ford actually did some good for the Euro companies it bought up.

Which has a better reputation Land Rover or BMW?

I know both are considered luxury brands, but which has a better reputation Land Rover or BMW?|||I have the X5 and the LR Discovery. The BMW is far more reliable, handles better be it snow, rain or highway and better on gas. The Land Rover is good off road and snow and has never let me down however I take it to the dealership for repairs. The Land Rover is more comfortable though with better visibility. Of the three, they were all the same year and model. they all went 250,000 + miles without any major problems.

I currently own a Land Rover, and while I love it, it has been a bit quirky. It is a good vehicle, mechanically, but they are notorious for electrical "issues". It has never stranded me, but has forced me to stay in second gear before.

If you go with Land rover, buy either a new one (factory warranty) or a certified used one (dealership warranty) and if available, get an extended warranty. It has saved my butt more than once from some high $$ repairs.|||BMW.

I know ground clearance depends on suspension, wheels, tires, and what transmission is hanging out of the bottom of the car, so if anyone has the original stock number, it would be a huge help.|||800000000000000 FEET

Why won't my aftermarket stereo work on my land rover?

i bought a dual xdvd8181 for my land rover and i had to connect it manually. the power worked because it turned on fine but no sound came out of the speakers. i know which wires i had to connect to but no sound would come out. any help?|||if you have a land rover why get low quality brand like Dual?

but chances are is that the truck has a factory installed amplifier for the speakers and when you changed the radio the new one isn't sending power (remote wire) to the old amp so it isn't pushing the speakers

you will need to send power to the old amp, or rewire (run new wires) all of your speakers to the back of your new radio|||my only guess is to check your wiring
