How do I install a CB radio in a Land Rover?

As above really. In a 1993 Land Rover Defender. Also recommendations as to which CB to buy|||CB's are easy to install in any vehicle, its all just a matter of where you want to put it.

1) If possible try to find an area that already has screws to mount your CB.

2) Next run the electrical wiring under the dash, under carpet, whatever you need to to keep it out of the way of your driving.

3) One of the best places to "hook" into for power is your passenger caompartment fuse box. Usually there will be an accessories fuse that is empty that you can plug into. Use a multi-meter to test for power and how much power, no more than 12volts DC.

4) Next run your antenna, always try to keep as much co-ax out of sight as possible, run it inside when you can, under the carpet.

As far as which CB's to recommend? My favorite is the Cobra 29LTD, but there are several different makers and styles. For the best advise, find a CB shop and let them take you on a tour of CB's plus they can also give you more advise on mounting solutions.

Good luck and keep it rollin. When you get it hooked up give me a hollar, huck finn channel 19 %26amp; 2.|||Don't forget defenders have ali bodys and dont earth well, run a wire from your mount to the chassis or earthing point.

|||Huck is correct on the installation, and that the Cobra 29 is a good radio. There are a couple of things I would add, though.

First, when you run wires under carpet, make sure they are not in a place that would allow them to crimp, chafe, or break.

When you choose an antenna, get one that can be "tuned". A CB shop, or a friend that knows CB's or Ham radios can help you. Tuning is extremely important, as it not only affects the performance of your radio, but, if not properly tuned, an antenna can cause damage to the radio.

Other radios to consider would be the Cobra 25, or the Uniden PC68 or PC78. All come with choices of options, like weather channels, etc, but none should be more than $125 or so. A Cobra 25 or Uniden PC68 with no options can be had for around $70.

If you have unlimited funds, you can buy a 10 meter (ham) radio and have it converted to CB. I have about $275 invested in one, and $450 in another. Expensive, but extremely durable.
