What is a alternative to land rover?

I really want a land rover but everyone i know is saying they suck and are expensive to repair and are so unreliable. Yet other people ive talked to say they are very reliable and are one of the best vehicles out there. I dont know what to think could someone list some alternatives or something lol. i want the discovery or the range rover.|||I worked on a Toyota Land Cruiser that was a beautiful car, and on the whole easier to repair and less expensive than a Land Rover to maintain.

For Land Rovers at my shop, a tune-up (which must be done every 30,000 miles) will set you back $350 parts and labor, and a 90,000 mile service will be $800 parts %26amp; labor. They must receive regular oil changes and the 1995 models are known for problems with their self-leveling suspension. A self-leveling suspension failure caused by torn air bags is approximately $1000 parts %26amp; labor to repair. To replace the entire system will run you $3000. Control modules (computers) are about $1300 a piece if they fail.

They are reliable, comfortable and durable cars if kept well. But if they break, the repairs can become incredibly expensive. I'm not trying to discourage you from getting a Land Rover. In fact, I'd encourage you to get one--as long as it's 1997 or newer, and has service records from new. They are safe and capable cars. Just be sure you know the history of the one you buy, and keep up on its scheduled maintenance.

If you do, you will have a car that will easily last you 200,000 miles.

Which ever route you take, good luck!|||a hummer. and not an h2, an h1. there way better. you can also get some hardcore military ones off of ebay...|||a good pair of new balance|||Porsche, Jeep, Meredes Benz.|||The new Audi Q7 Truck is REALLY nice...

But if you can afford it and it makes you happy . . . go for it. You might not get a lemon after all. And if you do, and you have a spare car, no problem! (We have a spare car that we drive maybe 500 miles a year. So little that the insurance company gave us a discount on it.)|||A land-rover is one of the best 4x4's out there... if you plan to go off road in a big way get one... they are tough, easy to repair and they keep going...|||Any four wheel drive light truck with LIMITED SLIP front and rear differentials. Toyota would be a good start. Military style Humvee's (Pre-GM hummers made by AM General) with hydraulic drivetrain (instead of axles and driveshafts) are about as good off road as you'll get. VW toureg is also worth looking into.|||I'm a third world civil engineer, and having a 4X4 is essential. The Land Rovers of the 70's were exceptional, today they rank in the specialized magazines as one of the worst cars in terms of number of defects per units made, meaning they are unreliable and very costly to repair. You do not say what you want a 4X4 for and the answer to that question is a key issue. Assuming you want the vehicle for what they really are, being off road and in isolated places with few if any possibilities of having modern repair shops, then forget the land rover, actually forget most of today's suv's. If you can buy a 1885 Toyota Land Cruiser very well preserved, engine 4000 cc and put in a few bucks to have it in top shape, you will have THE 4X4, dont forget a winch. From today's suv's perhaps the Toyota RAV4 is a very good choise. If you go for a modern one, buy one with the least gadgets, without a/c, heavy duty alternator, heavy duty off road package, heavy duty electric system. Remember that out in the wild its you and your 4x4, nothing else. I have a 1985 Cherokee, carburator, no gadgets. You also have to consider where you will go with your 4x4. If you will be going below 4000 ft nothing much to be said, if you will be going above 4000 ft you will need your 4x4 to have the engine point to be automatically adjusted to the altitude at which your vehicle will be operating. If you will be above 9000 ft, a turbo is recommended, you lose more or less 10% en engine power with each 3000 ft of altitude. Now... if what you like is a suv just to cruise...., show off...... give yourself a treat......, get whatever you feel like....it just depends on what your pocket can afford.
