What do i need to look out for, buying a land rover discovery 2?

I'm looking to buy 1999-2004 Land Rover Discovery 2. I noticed there is a lot of those in my area for $12,000 and under. They all look like they're in good shape, with 100k miles or less. Is that a good price for that model? Or will I be buying a money pit?|||Check the transmission and drive chain for any abnormal clunks and knocks. Check for any serious oil leaks (you're going to get some minor leaks, it's a Land Rover) only buy one with a full service history. Corrosion isn't such a problem with Disco II's but check the chassis out riggers to be sure.

Only two car manufacturers in the world can claim that more than 50% of ALL the cars they have EVER produced are still on the road, Rolls-Royce and Land Rover, both British and both better than anything the US can ever hope to produce.|||The later: money pit, plus the agro.

But Rover [%26amp; Jag] is owned by the Indians now, Tata Motors, and they CANT HELP but do a better job than the Brits.|||Why do the English drink warm beer? Because they cant keep their refrigerators running long enough to keep the beer warm? Ive owned many brit cars....make sure you buy a standard and live on a hill so you can roll it down the hill, pop the clutch and start.....

dont buy it....they look nice ....but no|||True, 50% of Land Rovers are still on the road. That would be the 50% that were made prior to 1980. The rest can still be found on the road, but off to the side, hemorrhaging oil.|||Pile of ****. That's the best compliment I could pay a land rover/range rover. Do you really want to attract flies to your driveway (where it will sit for months at a time).
